Corrie Hotel

The Corrie Hotel is situated on the seashore of the idyllic village of Corrie on the Isle of Arran, surrounded by beaches, forests, glens, lochs and mountains.

The Hotel was originally built as a private house in 1850, using locally sourced red stone from the village quarry, and was extended in 1899 to house holidaymakers.

We were approached by the owners to work with them to replace their existing single glazed windows with new Timber Double Glazed Sash and Case windows, making the hotel far more energy efficient and a draught free and warmer environment for their guests.

Following a survey by our directors Alyn and Martin, along with a quick turnaround on costing, we got to work on the production of the 56 windows and two door sets that were required.

Owners Andy and Rodger’s Architect, Paul Mullin of MICA Architects, London had found TJ Ross through a google search and couldn’t believe their luck at finding a Scottish manufacturer that specialised in timber Sash and Case windows. Due to various operating circumstances within the hotel the project was time sensitive and had to be completed within just 9 weeks, including the Christmas period. Further obstacles that contributed to its complexities were the relatively large scale of the order and getting it all to its destination safely- including rough ferry crossings, which evidently can be cancelled at the very last minute!

In January 2024 the windows were manufactured in our workshop in Glenrothes in a traditional Sash and Case format, traditional comb tenon joints- blending age old craftmanship with modern performance specifications, before making their challenging journey all the way over to the Isle of Arran; where all windows and door sets were installed and works completed by our own highly, TJ Ross trained installation joiners, by the start of March 2024.

The hotel owners opted to change the colour of the windows from their original white to a bold, black, giving the hotel a more modern appearance and complimenting the building’s red stone. A bold decision led by Andy and Rodger but one that has paid off in our opinion.

According to owner Andy (Garbutt), they have been receiving many compliments on their new windows and doors and the remarkable difference it has made to both the hotel’s comfort and its appearance.

We have very much enjoyed this project and forging the relationship with the owners of The Corrie Hotel, and we are very much looking forward to working with them in the future!
